I hear it often when I ask a woman if she has been photographed. The 1 million excuses as to why she thinks she doesn't deserve it come flooded at me.
I have heard them all.
So I wanted to take a moment and let you in on a little bit about me, the woman on the on the other side of the camera.
I have had 17 surgeries, I am a stage 4 endometriosis survivor. I at one time in 1 year lost 100 pounds. I have gained 20 back. I have been bone skinny and six-pack fit and obese. I have had facial reconstruction done because of an accident when I was 3 and some of my own family members have not recognized me. I had to adjust to my own new identity. I am in menopause for the rest of my life. I can't have children. These all have been things that have tried to break me at one time or another.
I have gone through a lot of things mentally, physically and emotionally and had to learn to love my body again over and over again.
Maybe that is why I love photography so much, it documents our lives. The good, the bad, and the beautiful.
When I hear your reasons, I get it, I have lived some of them too. I photograph women of all sizes, ages and I hear their story, as every woman has one.
Let me photograph you, love who you are today, exist in photographs. You deserve a day for you and photographs of them for a lifetime.
Never let it be said that to dream is a waste of one's time, for dreams are our realities in waiting, in dreams we plant the seeds of our future. -Unknown
"There are so many aspects of you that I adore. The one that solidifies everything is your motivation to do these shoots. I truly feel it's not the money you receive (your prices are beyond reproach), and it's not to fill the pages of your portfolio. I believe it is because you want women to feel beautiful, you want to empower us to love ourselves, no matter what we look like. Most important, you are what most women desire to be, and do. Joslyn, you lift up other women, instead of tearing them down. You make us look at ourselves, through the lens, and you portray your clients at their most attractive. You truly support and value women, that is a rare quality to find in someone. For all these reasons, my goal is to have a session with you. It doesn't matter if my smile is perfect, my legs are skinny, or my boobs sag. It's all me. If anyone can help me see the beauty in that, I know it would be you."
